Every now and again you’ll come across a destination that just feels right. It could be the architecture, the food or even the culture. But whatever it is, that comforting feeling makes this place a cornerstone in your mind. For us, that place is beautiful Mérida in Yucatán, Mexico.
In the media we’re told that Mexico is an endless battlefield of turf wars and citizens who live below the poverty line. What you have to understand is that this, just like in any place, represents a small fraction of the entire product.
The people of Mexico are proud, and they damn well should be. From coast to coast the heritage, beauty and culture of Mexico differs, as do some of the customs of the people. In Mérida, the city is centered and fueled by family. Safe suburbs and clean downtown areas make this town an oasis from real city life. But, the economy is strong enough to support a standard of living that most could only dream of.
From the colonial homes in Centro Mérida to the lovely people, the color and vibrancy of the city is remarkable. We urge you to venture through this coastal city the next time you’re planning a trip.
